HomeMy WebLinkAboutBy-law No. 2000-085 CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF BAYHAM BY-LAW NO. 2000-85 BEING A BY-LAW TO AMEND BY-LAW 98-34, FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF BAYHAM FIRE DEPARTMENT WHEREAS the Municipal Act provides that the Council may by by-law establish and regulate a fire department; AND WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Bayham enacted and passed By-law No. 98-34 on July 2, 1998; AND WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Bayham now deems it necessary to further amend By-law No. 98-34; THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF BAYHAM ENACTS AS FOLLOWS: 1. THAT Section 4 is amended by adding the following: (e) Fire Department members shall retire at the age of 65. 2. THAT Section 10 is amended as follows: After "thirty-eight members"add the phrase "and ten auxiliary members" 3. THAT Schedule`B", Section 1 is amended by adding the following: After "18 years of age"add the phrase "but not more than 65." 4. THAT Schedule"C-6"is amended to incorporate the following: Section "REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKIIIS AND ABILITIES" Remove the phrase "within one year of joining the fire department"and add the phrase "when training is provided". 5. THAT Schedule "C-7"entitled "Job Description for the Auxiliary Firefighter"is added as attached. 6. THAT in all other respects, By-Law No. 98-34 be and is hereby confirmed. READ A FIRST AND SECOND TIME this 5th day of October 2000. 42-et(C-<17gie � :/ � Mayor Clerk SCHEDULE "C-7" MUNICIPALITY OF BAYHAM Job Description AUXILIARY FIRE FIGHTER GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Auxiliary Fire Fighters are to report to the Training Officer of their department. Participation in regular training sessions and perform non-life threatening duties at emergencies when summoned as required by the Officer in charge. EXAMPLES OF WORK: • responds to fire, rescue, hazardous materials emergencies and other emergencies assigned to his/her station when required,but does not work in any hazardous situations • lays and connects hose lines, nozzles and other related appliances, turns water on and off • holds fire hose and directs fire streams • operates a pressure pump as assigned • carries, puts up and climbs ladders • operates rescue equipment * performs salvage work at fire and emergency scenes using salvage covers,vacuums, mops, squeegees, etc. when required • assists in cleaning fire fighting equipment upon return to the station after an emergency call or a practice • attends regular training sessions to practice existing procedures and to learn and practice new fire fighting and rescue methods * cleans and maintains areas of the fire station used by the members as scheduled • assists with the fire prevention program • other duties as assigned by station chief REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Mental alertness, mechanical aptitude, ability to get along well with others,willingness to perform tasks assigned, conscientious and dependable, good physical condition and successfully passed the Bayham Fire Department's pre-employment job related performance test. SCHEDULE "C-7" cont'd Page 2 ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND PHYSICAL CONDITION Must participate in at least 70% of the required annual training and must pass a medical to be provided at the Municipality's expense by a physician designated by the fire department before becoming an auxiliary member of the fire department and as required by the Fire Chief WORKING CONDITIONS: The fire fighter will be expected to respond and work in all types of weather and less than ideal conditions. He/she could have to enter hazardous atmospheres and areas and will be expected to work in a safe manner during training sessions. ... 2
