HomeMy WebLinkAbout031623 Council Highlights March 16, 2023 Council Highlights Port Burwell Fire Association Presentation Drew Beach (Port Burwell Station #1) and Harry Baranik, Fire Chief, presented to Council regarding items obtained through a Windfarm Grant. The items included f ire suppression grenades and a backpack underwater sonar apparatus. Deputy Mayor Weisler Bill 5 Motion Council provided support for a Motion presented by Deputy Mayor Rainey Weisler regarding Bill 5. Bill 5 is a private member’s bill expected to receive Second Reading in May 2023. If adopted, Bill 5 will require municipal councillors to adhere to municipal workplace violence and harassment policies, and will empower Integrity Commissioners to make application to the court to have sitting members of Council removed should they contravene any applicable workplace violence and harassment policy. Updates to Procedural By-law Council approved and adopted a new Procedural By-law for the Municipality, which contains Council and Committee procedures and consolidated a pair of amendments from 2022. Municipal Assistance Request The Bayham Beachfest Committee submitted a 2023 Municipal Assistance Request, which was approved by Council. Municipal Website Procurement – GHD Digital Council agreed to sole-source website design services to GHD Digital for procurement of a new Municipal website. Staff expect to have the new website operational in Q4 2023. Council also directed that a Social Media Policy be drafted and presented to Council for consideration. Staff expect to bring this matter back to Council in Q3 or Q4 to align with the launch of the new website. SCC Expansion Detailed Costing and Timeline Update Council received a Report on the Straffordville Community Centre, including detailed scope and costing. The costing provided a breakdown of the project’s estimated $2.9m costs, and presented an option to reduce costs to $2.33m. The original ICIP grant amount is $2.003m. After lengthy discussion by Council, and responses by the CAO regarding the project, cost over-runs, and how the over-runs could be addressed over multiple budget years, Council referred the costing back to staff to further reduce the scope and associated costs and present revisions to Council in Q2 2023.
