Hello Ed, Rainey,
Great to see you at ROMA.
Ed, this is a follow to our conversation about the possibility of Bayham sponsoring this year's Citizen Police Academy,
to the tune of $250. Rainey, this is to catch you up!
This program was hosted by Dutton Dunwich last year, with great success. Elgin OPP is therefore looking to bring it to
the east end of the County by hosting it in Malahide. The fee is just to cover the cost of renting Malahide Community
Place for 9 sessions, total ($1,000). Malahide Township would contribute the same amount, the Community Policing
Association same amount, and I am trying to get one insurance company to do the same.
Let me know, as soon as you can, if Bayham is willing and able to do the sponsorship, just so the promotional material
can have your logo included. Details of the program are copied below (if you google it as well, you will see lots of posts
from other detachments and police services who provide the same program to their community, or Brett's promo video
from last year). Thanks!
dg
From Elgin OPP Detachment:
As you know, community engagement and education play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure municipality.
The Citizen's Police Academy is an exclusive opportunity for residents to gain knowledge about the workings of the OPP
and the steps they can take to prevent crime. By hosting this educational program, we can empower our community
members to become proactive partners in maintaining public safety.
It is currently intended that the Elgin Citizen's Police Academy will commence the week of March 19th, 2025
(concluding May 15th) and consist of two-hour information sessions held one night per week for a period of nine weeks,
each focusing on different aspects of law enforcement, such as community policing, crime prevention techniques, and
2
emergency response units/procedures. These sessions will be conducted by members of the OPP, community partners
and professionals who will share their expertise engaging participants in interactive discussions and practical
demonstrations.
MCP location can accommodate a larger audience and encourage participation from diverse sections of our community.
This will ensure a broad representation of residents who are interested in learning more about the work of law
enforcement agencies and how they can collaborate with us to prevent crime.
