HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/10/2013 - Museums Bayham MUSEUMS BAYHAM Minutes of April 10, 2013 Meeting Bayham Municipal Office, Straffordville, Ontario Present: Chair-Bev Hickey, Vice Chair- Chuck Buchanan, Secretary- Lynn Acre, Ray Maddox, Brian Masschaele, Ron Bradfield, Albert White, Anna Schafer, Matt Schafer Regrets: Councillor Tom Southwick 1. CALL TO ORDER: Chairman called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. 2. DECLARATION OF PECUNIARY INTEREST: None 3. AGENDA: It was moved by C.Buchanan and seconded by R. Maddox that the agenda be approved. Motion Carried. 4. MINUTES: It was moved by L.Acre and seconded by R. Bradfield that the minutes of the March 13, 2013 meeting be approved as written. Motion Carried. 5. CORRESPONDENCE : i)Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corp. requesting more brochures. ii)Ontario Museum Association asking us to rejoin so we'll be listed in their printed material. It was moved by R.Bradfield and seconded by B.Masschaele that we join OMA for$100 and that we change the listing from"Marine Museum"to"Museums Bayham". Motion Carried. iii)A"thank you"email from B.Masschaele for nominating him for 10 year volunteer service award. 6. MATTERS OUT OF THE MINUTES a) Edison Fest Committee: M.Schafer reported that the subcommittee met on April 9 at the Vienna Community Centre. Vendors have been contacted. Two bikes have been purchased at $99 each for free draw. Due to new government regulations, we may not have bouncy castles this year. John Giesbrecht will donate his horse & wagon rides. It was agreed to give him $200 honorarium. Bob Cain will supply the popcorn. A chip wagon has been invited but not yet confirmed. A 50/50 draw is underway to help finance the event. The next meeting of the subcommittee is April 23, 2013. Museums Bayham April 10, 2013 -2- b) 2013 Aylmer Home & Rec Show-April 12, 13 & 14, 2013: Volunteers to work at our booth are; Friday April 12: all day Stan & Marg Rushton Saturday April 13: 11 am — 1 pm: Ray Maddox 1 pm — 3 pm: Bev Hickey 3 pm — 6 pm: Mat & Anna Schafer 6 pm - 9 pm: Ron & Bonnie Bradfield Sunday April 14: all shifts are covered c) St. Thomas Home & Rec Show: held last weekend. We joined the County's exhibit. B. Hickey suggested that better/more signage was needed to identify who we were. d) Lighthouse windows: R.Bradfield reported that Clera Brantford plan to install new windows on April 18 weather permitting. He will take his lift truck to assist. e) New Edison Museum Building Committee: The next meeting is April 16, 7:00 pm at the Municipal office. Pat Zimmer will be the guest. J) Wind Interpretive Centre Management: A meeting is scheduled on April 17 at 2:00 pm. R.Maddox volunteered to attend and to request that this committee look after the centre. Also to request that it be open on Aug.15 for a tour and also for Doors Open in September. 8. NEW BUISNESS: a) Great Waterfront Trail Adventure: A group of 150-200 cyclists will pass through Bayham on Aug.15 on their way to Turkey Point with a staggered arrival between 9:30 -11:30 am. They have requested to tour the Interpretive Centre, Marine Museum, Lighthouse and HMCS Ojibwa. B.Hickey will attend the planning meeting. b) Parging Edison Museum: It was moved by R.Maddox and seconded by C.Buchanan that we hire "Paul's Masonry" (Paul Reimer) to repair the bricks on the outside wall of the Edison Museum for $350. Motion Carried. Museums Bayham April 10, 2013 -3- c) WW 1 Military History Lecture: April 12 at the London Public Library. d) Thomas Edison Museum in Ohio: B. Masschaele reported touring this museum in Milan Ohio, the birthplace of Edison. Like us, they are run by volunteers and have financial struggles too. e) Marine Artefacts Donated: Pt. Burwell Historical Society has purchased 14 marine related items from a Tillsonburg resident which they plan to donate to the museum. f) Impromptu Tour of Marine Museum: R.Bradfield gave a group of Kiwanas a tour of the Marine Museum after they looked at Ojibwa. They left a small donation. g) Student Interviews: B.Hickey, C.Buchanan & R. Maddox volunteered to participate in student interviews. Museums open May 15. 9. NEXT MEETING: Wednesday May 8, 2013, at 7:00 pm Municipal office. 10. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by R.Maddox and seconded by R. Bradfield that the meeting be adjourned at 7:55 pm.
