Minutes of February 13, 2013 Meeting
Bayham Municipal Offices,Straffordville,Ontario
Present: Chair- Bev Hickey, Vice-chair- Chuck Buchanan, Ray Maddox,Albert White, Brian
Masschaele, Anna Schafer, Matt Schafer.
Regrets: Lynn Acre, Ron Bradfield
Absent: Councillor Tom Southwick
1. CALLTO ORDER: Chairman called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
2. DECLARATION OF PECUNIARY INTEREST: None.
3. AGENDA: Moved by Ray Maddox and seconded by Albert White,that the agenda be
approved. Motion carried.
4. MINUTES: Moved by Matt Schafer,seconded by Chuck Buchanan,that the minutes of the
January 9, 2013, meeting,be approved as written. Motion carried.
5. CORRESPONDENCE: Chuck Buchanan reported on the last E.O.N.meeting,which was the
Annual meeting. He was elected the new Treasurer and Officers are elected for a two year term,
with 1/2 of the Executive remaining in office.The 2013 Student Workshop is tentatively
scheduled for June 8th or 13th.
6. ST.THOMAS HOME SHOW: March 22, 23,&24, 2013. Chuck Buchanan has volunteered to
help set up and attend the booth, on Friday, March 22nd, and Bev Hickey offered help to transport
some of our artifacts,for display. Dock lights,ship's models,and a portable phonograph,from
the Edison Museum.
(b) AYLMER HOME SHOW:April 12, 13,& 14, 2013.Application and fee has been sent in.
7. REQUEST FORM NORWICH AND DISTRICT MUSEUM: To borrow a specific Museum
Management text book, if we have one.We do not.The cost of this book is $60.00,and Brian
Masschaele will discuss it,further,with the Norwich Board.
8. AIR CONDITIONER COVER AT EDISON MUSEUM: The cover has blown off the compressor,
but it was felt that no harm would be done,while it was off.
9. DOLLS FOR THE EDISON MUSEUM: Moved by Chuck Buchanan, seconded by Matt
Schafer,that the red-haired doll,Armand Marseille Toddler,with jointed body and sleep
eyes, with mended finger, dressed in period clothes, and valued at approximately
$1000.00 , be accepted for display in the Edison Museum. Motion carried.

The following information is to be displayed on a card, as requested by the donor. -
Donated by NANCY JOHANSEN, Granddaughter of EDWARD and CHRISTINA SCRUTON;
Great-granddaughter of JOHN and EMMA SCRUTON. Brian Masschaele suggested that
Lynda Millard contact Nancy Johansen to complete the donation form, and that the
original e-mail be filed with it.
10. EDISON DINNER AND DANCE, NOVEMBER 16TH, 2013: Matt Schafer reported that
we should keep the fund-raiser date, as a fish dinner, catered by Mrs. Martin, from Port
Burwell,with a silent auction, and entertainment, and, possibly, a hypnotist, could
replace it. Help is requested from members of the Building Committee and Museums
Bayham Committee members. Other fund-raising ideas were discussed, such as a Spirit
Walk, by the St. Thomas Anglican Church, and Nick Wells,who portrays Colonel Talbot.
Suggested by Ray Maddox.
11. FLAGS AT THE MARINE MUSEUM: Chuck Buchanan reported that the Ontario flag
and the U.S.A. flag, need replacing, as they are badly tattered, and we should purchase
replacements. Another Ojibwa flag, or perhaps, a Union Jack, could be installed on the
centre boom, as the Ojibwa flag has been blown away. They can be acquired from Flags
Unlimited, in Thornton, Ontario, and Chuck often goes by there.
12. EDISONFEST COMMITTEE MEETING: Bev Hickey attended the meeting on January
22, 2013. Chairpersons for the upcoming year are: Robert Ronson, Helen Ronson. Lynda
Millard and Leanne Walsh, are committee members. The next meeting is February 26,
2013, at 7:00 p.m. at the Vienna Community Centre.
13. ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION: 1.) Matt Schafer reported on plans for a new building for
the Edison Museum, and will meet with Albert White, to discuss plans. 2.) Pros and cons
were discussed, in reference to the future of the Wind Interpretive Centre.
14. NEXT MEETING: Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal Office.
15. ADJOURNMENT: Moved by Ray Maddox. Meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
