An additional student, hired by Elgin County Tourism, will work 4 days/week in the Lighthouse (no weekends) allowing our students to schedule days off. MUSEUMS BAYHAM May 14,2014 -2- d) Edison Fest: Both Mayor Ens and the Lions Club have donated bicycles to be given away at Edison Fest on June 7. They also collect gently used skateboards to give away, but so far only 5 have been found. The horse-drawn wagon and a bouncy castle have been booked. Celtic Entertainment has been arranged in cooperation with Bayham's Family Table. Various activities, food sales, promotions etc. have been planned. e) Replacement of Flags: B.Hickey, C.Buchanan & Jim Veen changed the flag at the Edison Museum by creating a new system of pulleys to lower the flag instead of lowering the entire pole. f) Rick Mercer Invitation: A.White & C.Buchanan visited the EMM and spoke to Melissa Raven. They are interested in partnering with us to entice Rick Mercer to visit HMCS Ojibwa and Pt.Burwell. She wants to take the lead so we will wait. g) Items for sale from R.Bradfield: The discussion began with the recognition that we need to create a "collection policy" for both museums. S.Start is interested and willing to work on a draft policy for our consideration. It was noted that the Marine Museum has outgrown some of its displays that are NOT marine-related. In regards to the purchase of any of the items offered by R.Bradfield, it was agreed that a site visit and inspection of the items in question was needed to determine the appropriateness of adding any of them to our collections. The input of B.Masschaele is also desired. It was moved by M.Schafer and seconded by R.Maddox that committee members arrange to inspect the artefacts in question, take photos and bring them back to the committee for discussion and decision. Motion Carried. It was noted by S.Start that the property surrounding the lighthouse should become municipal property. 6. NEW BUSINESS a) Membership: It was noted that Susan Start has attended 3 meetings and has expressed an interest in becoming a committee member. It was moved by L.Acre and seconded by R.Maddox that Museums Bayham recommend to Bayham council that Susan Start be appointed as a full voting member of this committee. Motion Carried. MUSEUMS BAYHAM May 14,2014 -3- b) Sale of Port Burwell Firehall: Both surprise and disappointment were expressed by some members that this publicly owned site was sold without being listed publicly for sale. It was noted that this land had originally been donated to the village of Port Burwell by Mahlon Burwell in 1830 for municipal use. It appears that it was privately sold to Vladimir Nikolic for $75,000 and will be rezoned to residential with a minor allowance for commercial interests (furniture refinishing). c) Council Representation: It was noted with disappointment that it has been quite some time since we have had a council member attend our meetings. 9. NEXT MEETING: Wednesday June 11, 2014, at 7:00 pm Municipal office. 10. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by R. Maddox that the meeting be adjourned at 9:00 pm. 2—a-,(1 d Chairman Be‘ Hickey Secretary Lynn •cre
