Secretary- Lynn Acre, Ron Bradfield, Ray Maddox, Brian Masschaele. Regrets: Councillor Torn Southwick, Jean Woon, Anna Schafer, Matt Schafer 1. CALL TO ORDER: Chairman called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm 2. DECLARATION OF PECUNIARY INTEREST: None 3. AGENDA: It was moved by R.Bradfield and seconded by R.Maddox that the agenda be approved. Motion Carried. 4. MINUTES: It was moved by L.Acre and seconded by B. Masschaele that the minutes of the March 14, 2012 meeting be approved as written. Motion Carried. 5. CORRESPONDENCE: None 6. REPORTS: A) Marine Museum Report: No report B) Edison Museum Report: No report C) New Edison Building Committee Report: No report. D) Barn Quilt Report: C.Buchanan circulated brochures from other areas promoting Barn Quilt trails. 7. MATTERS OUT OF THE MINUTES: a) Tillsonburg Home & Rec Show: March 30 — April 1. Chairman Hickey gave a heartfelt thank you to all members who volunteered at the Home & Rec show. b) Request for Washroom Use: Chairman Hickey read aloud the letter that he sent to Christine's Good Eats, explaining our reasons for not approving her request to use the Marine Museum's washroom for her new business. MUSEUMS BAYHAM April 11, 2012 -2- c) Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Chairman Hickey installed the new detector at the Marine Museum and it began to beep non-stop with numbers jumping between 1-17 so it was unplugged. He requested the fire chief to do an independent carbon monoxide check. C.Buchanan will study the directions for the detector and attempt to program it properly before installing the detector in the Edison Museum. d) A.S.Paragus Article: B.Masschaele made a digital copy of the article which was donated to us by Aylmer Museum. He suggested that the original be stored at the County Archives for preservation. Since we already have a copy of the article, it was moved by C.Buchanan and seconded by R.Bradfield that the original A.S.Paragus article be stored at the Elgin County Archives. Motion Carried. 8. NEW BUSINESS: a) Donation of Computer Monitor: Jim & Lois Veen have donated a flat screen computer monitor to the Marine Museum. C.Buchanan has already delivered it and hooked it up. L. Acre will send a "Thank You" letter. b) 2012 Flags: It was noted that last year's flags need to be replaced due to deterioration. We have an Ontario, an American and an Ojibwa flag in storage. Chairman Hickey will ask Joe Preston's office for 3 Canadian flags. C.Buchanan will purchase 4 packs of 50' nylon braided line to hoist them up. R.Bradfield will assist with the mounting using his boom truck. c) Price For "Vienna Historical Highlights" Book: It was brought to our attention by Municipal staff that the book, "Vienna Historical Highlights", priced at $20 has not been selling. It was suggested to reduce the price to $15. After some discussion, it was moved by B.Masschaele and seconded by C.Buchanan that we reduce the price of the Vienna Historical Highlights book by 50% to $10. Motion Carried. MUSEUMS BAYHAM April 11, 2012 -3- d) Water Leak at Edison Museum: A major water leak has occurred at the Edison Museum causing the ceiling in the "Inventions Room" to collapse. Some damage occurred to the ceiling of the living room beneath it as well. Since we've already been advised by our CBO that a wall is weak, and since we want to make wise decisions regarding repairing the damage, and since we want to protect our artefacts, it was moved by R.Maddox and seconded by B.Masschaele that we strongly recommend to Bayham Council that they immediately perform a Structural Assessment on the Edison Museum. Motion Carried. It was noted that it may be wise to pack up the valuable artefacts stored in the Invention Room and relocate them for the time being. e) Hiring Summer Students: L.Millard has advertized for our summer student positions. Interviews are planned for the first week in May. f) Ed Mathews'Bathtub Artifact: It was noted that Ed Mathews' original bathtub which he sailed across Lake Erie, is falling into disrepair outside along the Marine Museum. Chairman Hickey will ask E.Mathews if he'll consider repairing it. R.Maddox wondered if it could be of use to the Military Museum for promotional purposes. g) 100t Anniversary of McConnell's Nursery: R.Bradfield announced that 2012 is the 100th Anniversary of McConnell's Nursery, which employed many, many local residents. Plans are underway to commemorate the occasion. 9. NEXT MEETING: Wednesday May 9, 2012 at 7:00 pm Municipal office. 10.
