Minutes of March 14, 2012 Meeting
Bayham Municipal Office, Straffordville, Ontario
Present: Chair-Bev Hickey, Vice Chair- Chuck Buchanan, Secretary- Lynn Acre,
Anna Schafer, Matt Schafer, Ray Maddox, Brian Masschaele.
Regrets: Councillor Tom Southwick, Ron Bradfield, Jean Woon
I. CALL TO ORDER: Chairman called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm
2. DECLARATION OF PECUNIARY INTEREST: None
3. AGENDA: It was moved by M.Schafer and seconded by B. Masschaele that the
agenda be approved. Motion Carried.
4. MINUTES: It was moved by L.Acre and seconded by C. Buchanan
that the minutes of the Feb.8, 2012 meeting be approved as written. Motion
Carried.
5. CORRESPONDENCE:
a) Letter from Ministry of Citizenship& Immigration listing Bayham's award
winners. Presentation is Fri. March 23.7:30 pm at EECC. * A.Schafer asked
if a volunteer who receives an honourarium qualifies to be nominated for this
award?
b) Announcement: Ontario Heritage Week
c) Notice of CAA and AAA's"List of Attractions Program". Cost is $959 US/yr.
It was decided to pass info along to Project Ojibwa.
d) Promo material from Moore Museum; group tours etc.
e) Provincial Government invitation to nominate someone for Senior
Achievement Award. Deadline June 15/2012 Applications available at
www.ontario.cahonoursandawards.
t) Original copy of 1919 story written by A.S.Paragus. Donated by Aylmer
Museum. B.Masschaele received for copying purposes.
6. REPORTS:
A) Marine Museum Report:
CO2 Detectors: Chairman sought and received approval for 2 CO2
detectors priced each at $49.95. B.Masschaele suggested that Bayham's fire chief
should test for CO2 prior to the installation of detectors, and also to seek his
advice on where best to install them within the museums. Chair will make these
arrangements.

C) New Edison Building Committee Report: No report.

D) Barn Quilt Report: C. Buchanan reported that weekly painting takes
place at Sparta. 21 have gone to McBains for sealing. So far 4-5 have been
erected. Five of the 21 have been funded by host property owners. Elgin
County appears to be well ahead of the other 4 counties, due to the talent and
ambition of the volunteers. Special mention goes to Sally Martin of Central
painted and helped erect quilts, and Mat Schafer who is a host property owner.

F) E.O.N. Meeting: No report.
7.MATTERS OUT OF THE MINUTES:
a) Tillsonburg Home & Rec Show: March 30—April 1. Volunteers as follows;

Chairman will look after getting a 'gift basket' prepared to free draw.
8.NEW BUSINESS:
a) Request for Washroom Use: A local Pt.Burwell new business owner (fish & chip
concession stand) requested the use of the Marine Museum's washroom for patrons
during 2012 season. After considerable discussion it was moved by R.Maddox and
seconded by B.Masschaele that we respectfully decline C.Riordon's request to use the
Marine Museum washroom for the 2012 season, but invite the applicant to consider
appealing directly to the museum owners- the municipality. Motion Carried.
b) 2012 Draft Operating Budget: A review of the draft budget, reflecting changes made
previously, was reviewed. Committee would like to also see reserve totals.
c)Project Ojibwa Public Meeting: Chair gave a brief summary of the meeting held
March 6, 2012.
9. NEXT MEETING: Wednesday April 11, 2012 at 7:00 pm Municipal office.
10. ADJOURNMENT: It was moved by C.Buchanan and seconded by R. Maddox that
the meeting be adjourned at 8:10 pm.
