HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/08/2012 - Museums Bayham MUSEUMS BAYHAM Minutes of February 8, 2012 Meeting Bayham Municipal Office, Straffordville, Ontario Present: Chair-Bev Hickey, Vice Chair- Chuck Buchanan, Secretary- Lynn Acre, Anna Schafer. Mat Schafer, Ray Maddox, Brian Masschaele. Regrets: Councillor Tom Southwick, Ron Bradfield, Jean Woon 1. CALL TO ORDER: Chairman called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm 2. DECLARATION OF PECUNIARY INTEREST: None 3. AGENDA: It was moved by L.Acre and seconded by B. Masschaele that the agenda be approved. Motion Carried. 4. MINUTES: It was moved by M.Schafer and seconded by C. Buchanan that the minutes of the Jan.11, 2012 meeting be approved as written. Motion Carried. 5. CORRESPONDENCE: a) The annual Carr McLean catalogue will be kept in museum. 6. REPORTS: A) Marine Museum Report: -Furnace: Council approved our amendment to the 2012 budget to include the replacement of the furnace if necessary. Currently it appears to be running fine CO2 Detectors: It was moved by C.Buchanan and seconded by R.Maddox that we purchase two plug-in style CO2 detectors (one for each museum) with a maximum expenditure of$100 total. Motion Carried. The chairman agreed to purchase. -Photocopier Loan: The photocopier has been loaned to Bayham's Waste Water Treatment plant for the winter. -Dehumidifier: Since the furnace is running, the dehumidifier has been unplugged. -Portable Washroom Request: Summer students suggested the placement of portable washrooms outside the museum for tourists who do not want to tour the museum but need washroom facilities. The committee decided to forgo this expense and to allow tourists to use the museum's washroom without paying entrance fees. -Attendance Records: It was noted that our annual attendance records do not include any "off season" tours.( Shunpiker or Doors Open ). C.Buchanan will design a``group attendance" form to record these in the future. MUSEUMS BAYHAM February 8, 2012 -2- B) Edison Museum Report: No report C) New Edison Building Committee Report: R.Bradfield invited the committee to consider purchasing the former Scout Hall in Pt.Burwell which could then be moved to the Vienna site for a temporary Edison museum. After some discussion. it was decided that a temporary solution was not desired. Furthermore, B.Masschaele encouraged members to consider that future fundraising efforts from senior levels of government for the new museum may be difficult to obtain since Bayham (through Elgin Military Museum) will be receiving monies for Project Ojibwa. D) Barn Quilt Report: C. Buchanan reported 911 numbers are being sought for each quilt location so they can be included in a promotional booklet. Every Monday morning volunteers meet in Sparta United Church to work on 14 various quilts. There are currently 3 free standing frames stored in our PW garage which C. Buchanan has built. F) E.O.N. Meeting: The March EON meeting will be held at the Woodstock Art Gallery. 7.MATTERS OUT OF THE MINUTES: a) Tillsonburg Home & Rec Show: March 30 April 1. A list of volunteers will be established at the March meeting. 8.NEW BUSINESS: a) March 3 & 4: Profession Development Workshop to organize events; scheduling, planning & budgeting. How to avoid curator "burn out"'. Cost $250/member. 9. NEXT MEETING: Wednesday March 14, 2012 at 7:00 pm Municipal office. 10. ADJOURNMENT: It was moved by R.
