Date: Ally Shelly, Secretary Bev Hickey, Chair jOkie ry/i7 Curator's Report May 2017 Exhibits and Events The transportation exhibit "Port Burwell: Meeting Place of Water, Road, and Rail" opened on time and gives a nice overview of these three important contributors to the development of Port Burwell. The final component, a tree stump, arrived to lend some authenticity to the surveyor's chain located under the County map. The fishing exhibit has had the wall panels hung and fills the space by the emergency door nicely. The wall of shelves by the washroom has a display of informative posters and ship models. A new ship lantern display is being developed and will describe the red and green light navigational system. The Blacksmith's Shop has received some information text and an interactive component. We developed 5 information blurbs on the 5 types of saws and created flip-able flaps for the visitors to discover the blurb that goes with the photograph. The Canada Day "Selfie Booth" is taking shape. We now have some fisherman gear kindly lent by the owners of the fish market. The students and I have also identified several artifacts that will be part of the props suitable for gentle and supervised usage, and as a backdrop. Collections The project for the students and I this summer has been identified. We are going through the museum systematically and checking all artifacts with the main list to ensure that all are accounted for. We have begun the process. Staff The summer students have been hired and have started. After their orientation they got right into work, involving themselves with the new exhibits and sprucing the museum up.The bathroom has been done over—thanks to Margaret for painting the walls—with a newly painted floor, improved essential services (new paper towel holder, etc.) and some wall decorations. They will be attending an EON Student Orientation Workshop on June 5th along with summer students from many other EON member museums. They will receive training on customer service, tourism information for the area, and instruction on exhibit preparation and accessioning artifacts. This will consume most of the day and Bev Hickey will come to the museum to welcome visitors. 7 / C 6) ov Rib PORT BURWELL MARINE MUSEUM & LIGHTHOUSE &sos MONTHLY REPORT: May 2017 Projects Completed and On-the-Go: 1. Making the Blacksmith exhibit more interactive(Completed) - We and our curator have made an interactive game for the blacksmith exhibit; guessing which type of saw fits the description and hint 2.
