Review of Items not on Agenda a) Floor at Marine Museum Chuck Buchanan raises concerns regarding the expansion joints in the cement floor at the Marine Museum. The floor had expansion joints deliberately placed when installed. The caulking repairs can be attended to by board members. 4. Information on the exhibit at the Legislature Building in Toronto has been provided on the website, and at the Marine Museum. b) Discuss inviting Darya Rousseau, to Museums Bayham Meeting Bev Hickey inquired to Bayham Historical Society members as to inviting their new president, Darya Rousseau to the next Museums Bayham Board meeting. New Business (a) 1867 Bank of North America document found in Museum and framed for display Bev Hickey unveils the framed document prepared by Jennifer Beauchamp. The document was found in a filing cabinet, noticing the date coincides with Canada 150, Jennifer had Mary Gladwin formally of Oxford County Archives conduct some paper conservation on the document. After reparations the document was professionally framed. The document was a mortgage for $19,000 for the Port Authority, the boat buildings from Port Burwell at this time. 10. Finances (Budget) a) Framing Project Framing costs were approved and paid for the 1867 Bank of North America document. At a cost of $167.82, which came from the Sundry Account 11. All in Favour. Date: Ally Shelly, Secretary Bev Hickey, Chair #e/n 7 J(a) Ma y/o//7 Curator's Report April 2017 Exhibits and Events The Elgin County curators proposed a transportation exhibit theme with an advertising campaign featuring a passport for any museum wishing to participate. "Port Burwell: Meeting Place of Water, Road, and Rail" is the title for the Marine Museum's exhibit. This exhibit will feature the newly mounted old County map on the welcome wall and the 1867 document recently framed for display. I have borrowed a surveyor's chain from the Norfolk Historical Society to illustrate the work done by Col. M. Burwell in the early 1800's, and that will be displayed near the map. Also in the exhibit will be photographs of people enjoying the beach, the piles of coal, and assorted ships that docked at the harbour. The text will explain how Port Burwell was a centre for commerce and recreation because it was a place where waterways, roads, and rails converged. This new exhibit is moving into the location where the fishing exhibit was, right behind the welcome desk. The fishing exhibit has been condensed and placed near the emergency door. It needs only to have the wall panels hung. The remainder of the fishing exhibit has been placed on the shelves, including three heavy items handled by several Public Works fellows who came over to help.To my surprise, there are three outboard motors in the collection. The General Store has had a little facelift with the addition of more hats, a crock, books, and kitchen items. These were items languishing on the storage shelves. For the Canada Day celebration, I would like to establish a "selfie" area where visitors can pose with some exciting artifacts not normally available for this purpose. For a small fee they will have access to a costume and props, allowing them to partake in this phenomena of celebrating oneself, while celebrating Canada's 150th birthday. Collections I continue to organize the storage area, both storing and bringing out artifacts. The latest find is a medallion acknowledging an event from WWI. The recently acquired collection of radio controlled ship models has been moved from the shelf it arrived on and several are now on display with some large framed posters about ships. The remainder of the models are on the storage shelves. Staff The student summer job posting was extended as there were fewer applying than hoped for. There are two hired and a third yet to be selected. Among the tasks they will be doing is the need to check the master list of accessioned artifacts with what is in the museum. This task will be a summer long one and will hopefully be reconciled by the end of the summer. The students, Margaret, and I will discuss possible options for summer activities for children Municipality of ' //rrn F(e) BAY A NI 1'-[ /nay 47 A: P.O. REPORT o, CAO ul'tunity 11911 TO: Mayor & Members of Council FROM: Paul Shipway, CAOICIerk DATE: April 20, 2017 REPORT: CAO-25/17 SUBJECT: KING ST. ROAD ALLOWANCE BETWEEN CONCESSION 2&3 BACKGROUND On January 5, 2017 the Council of the Corporation passed the following resolution: THAT the Museums Bayham Advisory Board & Committee Resolution requesting the Council of the Municipality of Bayham consider ensuring King Street and road allowance to Edison Pioneer Cemetery be treated the same as other municipal streets, public works regularly tend the gravel and roadside in accordance to grass cutting standards spring through autumn and including the cost to an existing contractor's agreement be received for information; AND THAT the request be referred to staff to draft a report. DISCUSSION The Road Allowance between Concession 2 & 3 depicted on Appendix `A', attached hereto is an unopened road allowance. As the road allowance is unopened any road built within the same would be required to be built to Provincial Design - Minimum Maintenance Standards. The works would involve slope stabilization and the possibility o acquisition of additional lands for the same. Staff would respectfully suggest opening of King St. road allowance is not a road system priority, as outlined in the Roads Master Plan, at this point in time. RECOMMENDATION 1. THAT Report CAO-09/17 re King St. Road Allowance between Concession 2&3 be received for information. 2. AND THAT a copy of Report CAO-09/17 re King St. Road Allowance between Concession 2&3 be sent to Museums Bayham.
