Minutes of the 14th meeting November 10th 1959
Minutes of the 14th meeting of the Village Council of the Corp'n of the
Village of Port Burwell,held in the Municipal Hall on Thursday evening
November 10th,1959.
The meeting was called to order at 8.00 P.M. by the Chairman,Reeve
Kenneth Baird,Membera present: A.Evely,J.W. Sutherland, F.'1.Cooper &
Herold Ho sha l l.
. After reading the minutes of the last regular meeting,which was approved
and signed by the Reeve.
The accounts payable by the Village was read,after which there was a
motion by Harold Hoshall, Seconded by J.N. Sutherlad, that accounts 1 to 47
on Voucher No.11 be paid and the Reeve be authorized to sign same. RES.#73 CARR•
Moved by A.Evely, Seconded by F.W.Cooper,that the Village Council pay
the Reeve Fee of 1100.00 and the Councilors Fees of $75.00 each for 4
Councilors. J/74 CARR.
Moved by F.W.Cooper, Seconded by A.Evely,that tax 3 Turkeys be purchased
for Christmas Gratuities for Village empaoyees, #/75 '"
Moved by A.Evely, Seconded by H.Hoshall,that the Clerk write the parties
who own the Lewis gully,and get a price-on the property for the Village
interests in future,also inquire if an option could be obtained .

to be paid to Chief Constable George Foote, for services during

has been corrected and revised for 1959 assessment Roll and certifies the
1959 Roll as the last revised Roll of the municipality for all purposes.

Minutes of the 13th meeting of the Council of the Corpn of the Village
of Port Burwell, held in the Municipal Hall, on the evening of Nov.2nd 1959.
The meeting was called to order at ' :00 P.Y. with Reeve Kenneth Baird,
in the Chair,with Councilors,A.Evely,F.W.Cooper,H.Hoshall,J.w. Sutherland
in attendance.
The first order of business for the evening was the minutes for the last
—4111 regular meeting by the Clerk,No additions or deletions to be mde the
Reeve ordered the minutes adopted as read.
Next was the passing of accounts payable by the Village . Moved by
A.Evely, Seconded by F.W.Cooper, that accounts from 1 tolWlixpain on
Voucher No. 10 be paid and the Reeve be authorized to sign same. RES.# 68 Chrr.
Moved by J.W. Sutherland, Seconded by H.Hoshall,that the Village flank,
pay the sum of 118.75 for Hallowe'en policing of the Village to the
Legion Frontiersmen B. Squadron Delhi. RES#69 Carr.
— Moved by F.W.Cooper, Seconded by A.Evely that the Legion Branch #524
be given a grant of $40.00. RES #70 Carr
Moved by A.Evely, Seconded by H.Hoshall,that the Council recommend that
the County Engineer leave the existing atop sign on the intersection
of Victoria and County Road #42 -entering the Village,that the removal
of this atop sign is considered a traffic hazard by our Village Constable. #71 Carr
Moved by F.W.Cooper, Seconded by A.Evely that Dr.Berry,of the WaVerResources
Com. be advised that the agreement for Test drilling is here and we
are pleased that the administration has been completed . May we be
advised who has the contract for teat drilling and when do they intend

By-law # 100 to fix the day for nomination and Election for Municipal
Councilors and other local Boards in the Corp'n of the Village of Pt.Burwell

Minutes of the 12th meeting of the Corpn of the Council of
the Village of Port Burwell,held in the Municipal Hall on Monday
October 5th 1959.

The Meeting was called to order at 8:30 P.M. by the Chairman
Reeve, K.Baird,with meWbera present : A.Evely, J.W. Sutherland,
F.1.Cooper, H.Ho shall.
First was the reading of the minutes of the last special & regular
meetings.
Minutes were adopted as read and signed by the Reeve.
Next was read accounts payable by the Village,after which there
was a motion by &,,Evely, Seconded by F.W.Cooper,that accounts
from 1 to 18 on Voucher #10 be paid and the Reeve be authorized
to Sign the same. #64 Carr.
Moved by F.W.Cooper, Seconded by A.Evely,that the Clerk,00ntact
the P.U.C.and insist that the light be placed in the vicinity
of the Can .Legion Hall now. #65 Carr.
Moved by A.Evely, seconded by H.Hoshall,that the Council
authorize the Clerk, to write to the Dept of Highways Engineer
regarding Victoria St to Wellington St. drainage and to what
extent they will assist us with expenses. #65 Carr

Minutes of the 11th meeting (a special meeting) of the Council of
Corpn of the Village of Port Burwell, held in the Municipal Hall,
on the evening of Sept. 24th 1959.
The meeting was called to order at 8.00 P.M. by the Chairman,Reeve,
Kenneth Baird. Members, present F.W.Cooper, A.Evely, H.Hoshall &
J.W. Sutherland.
The meeting was called for the sole purpose of passing By-law 97
respecting the water works program.
Moved by A.Evely Seconded by F.W.Cooper, that leave be granted
to introduce By-law 97 to enter into agreement with the Ontario
Water Resources Commission, for teat drilling for an adequate
water supply,for the Village of Port Burwell.
The By-law was given first and Second readings only.
moved for second readings by Harold Hoshall and seconded by J.W.Butherland.
Moved by A.Evely, Seconded by J.R. gJtherland, that this Council
adjou.i until the next regular meeting, unless in case of emergency.

The tenth meeting of the Council of the Corpn.of the village of
Port Burwell, held in the Municipal Hall on the evening of Sept.
14th. 1959.
The meeting was called to order at 8:00 P.M. by the Chairman,
R. Baird with members,H.Hoshall, A.Evely, J.W. Sutherlana Present.
First was the reading of the minutes of the last regular meeting
of the Council, minutes were adopted as read.
Next was a summary of accounts payable by the Vlllage,after which

No.1 to 42 on Voucher No.8 be paid and the Reeve be authorized to

be authorized to pay Council members for the trip to Toronto,the
sum of $102.00 for expenses,for trip to The Water Resources Com.
concerning water system for the Village. , 59 Carr.

authorize the Clerk,to apply for Interim payment on Road expend-
itires, for the year 1959.

Council authorize the Ontario Water Resources Com. to start
test drilling on the west Beach of the Village of Port Burwell
for water system for the Village of Port Burwell,at cost of between

Council have the Clerkobtain the QAit Claim Deed forms requested

held in the Municipal Hall on the evening of August 10th 1959.

be paid the Chief of Police ,Geo,Foote, until further notice, RES #52 Car

to have the Mooseberger building demolished and the property be levelled . RES /53 Car
Moved by A.Evely,Seconded by H.Hoshall,that the Clerk be authorized by the
— Council to have an agreement written regarding a right of way East of Elizabeth
Street, to the Dyck rroperty ,and have the property owners sign the mums. RES #54 Carr.

Clerk,pay the Assessor,Hector McLean,sin months salary ,the sum of $500.00

Moved by J.W.Sutherland,Seconded by A.Evely, that Comncilor,MF.Fred Cooper,
be authorized to go to Toronto, on behalf the Village Conjunction .+ with the
parties concerned in promoting a Daily Bus Service between London and Port Burwell,
at no expense to the Village and that the Village Clerk be authorized to give
him a letter stating that the Village is in favor of the Bus Service. RES# 56 Carr.

Minutes of the 8th meeting. July 6th, 1959 .
The eighth regular meeting of the e.ouncil of the Corporation of the
Village of Port Burwell was held on Monday evening July 6th ,1959 .
in the Municipal Hall.
1110 The meeting was called to order at 9 Pm. with ReevA K.Baird in the
chair, and with Councilors Evely, Cooper, & J.W.Sutherland in attendance.
Mr.Toth ,Solicitor for the Village was on hand to explain to the Council
the Central Pipe Lines Franchaise,
Next was the reading of the minutes of the last regular meeting,
the minutes were adopted as read. -
Next inline of Business was the reading of the correspondence.
The accounts payable by the Village was read next, after which there
-- was a motion by A.Evely,seconded by F.W.Cooper,that Accounts on Voucher
#6 No's 1 to 40 be paid and the reeve be authorized to sign same. RES 45 Carr.
Moved by F.W.Cooper,seconded by A.Evely, that the $150.00; alloted for
paving property in front of Bairds store be increased to $195.00/. RES #46 Car]
Moved by J.W.Sutherland,seconded by A.Evely, that the Council direct
the Chief Constable to contact the Crown Attorney , re the /nforceing
of the Lords Day Act CANADA in regard of Public Dance #alts, in the Village.#4
Moved by F.W.Cooper,seconded by J.W.Sutherland, that Municipal Act
R'S.O. 388 (1) (43) be inforced in connection with the Mooseberger
property , and that Mr.Mooseberger, be informed *kit the Village Clerk
that a 30 day period of grace will be final. RES # 48
Moved by A.Evely, seconded by J.W.Sutherland, that the tillage Council
instruct the Clerk to reimburse Constable FOOTE ,the cost of keeping
impounded dogs for the period of 3 days at the rate of $1.00 per day,

write a letteb to the P.U.C. requesting a Street light be installed in front

Minutes of the Fourth meeting of the Council of the Corp'n of the Village
of Port Burrell,held in the Municipal Hall on Monday evening April 6th,1959.
The meeting was called to order at approximately 8:00 P.M. by Reeve,
Kenneth Baird,who presided over the meeting, with Councilors,A.Evely,
F.W.Cooper,& J.`Y. %therland in attendance.
First was the reading of the minutes of the last regular meeting, with
no deletions,additions,or corrections the Reeve ordered the minutes
adopted as read.
Next was a summary of accounts payable by the Villabe,af ter which there
was a motion by A.E ely, seconded by F.'Y.Cooper, that accounts from one to

Next was an introduction by Reeve K.Baird, to MR.W.J. 'Iatson,of the Dept.

for the Village of Port Burwell,was also present.

to Daylight saving time April the 26th,and charge back to standard time

The Inat.gural meeting of the Council of the Village of Port Purwell,
was held in the Municipal Hall,on the evening of January 5th, 1959
First in order of business was the swearing of the Reeve (K.Paird)and
Council by the Clerk.
Rev.H.O.Alward,of the Free Methodist Church,of Port Burwell,who was
in attendance at the meeting,next honored the Council with a short
address pointing out some of the pleasant and unpleasant times that
must come to each member of the Council if he is to carry out his
sworn duty to the Village.Rev.Alward, then lead the Council in prayer
asking God for strength and wisdom in the performance of their duties
as Reeve and Council of the Village.
Next was the reading of the minutes of the last regular meeting,
with no corrections the minutes were adopted kir as read and signed
by the Reeve.
The passing of accounts payable by the Villege,was next heard and
a resolution by A.Evely, seconded by F.W.Cooper that accounts No' s
1 to 20 be paid and the Reeve be authorized to sign the same. RES.41 CARR.
- Next a motion by F.'4.Cooper,seconded by H.Hoshall, that Chief Const.
Foote be hired on a monthly basis at a salary of 1150.00 per month
until terminated by either party. RES. 4-2 CARR.
Moved by A Evely, Seconded by F.W.Cooper, THAT Council Re-hire Mr.
Norman Loucks,for the year 1959 as Village Foreman at the same
wages as for the year 1958. RES.4 CARR.
