MINUTES

1. Call to Order
Chair Bev Hickey called the meeting to order at 7:00 Wednesday May 10th, 2017.

4. Announcements
2017 Architectural Conservancy of Ontario Heritage Award-
The Port Burwell Historic Lighthouse has been chosen as a recipient of a 2017 Heritage Award
from the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario for good practices in architectural preservation.
Bev Hickey, Chuck and Dorothy Buchanan will attend the ceremony May 17th representing the
Museums Bayham Board. Mayor Ens or delegate may also attend.

6. Minutes
(a) Motion to adopt minutes of April 12, 2017 Museums Bayham Meeting was made.
• Moved by Chuck Buchanan, Seconded Albert White to accept minutes. All in Favour.
7. Correspondence
7.1 Receive for Information
(a) Museum Curator's Monthly Report March 2017 (J. Hunt-Beauchamp).
Curator's report was reviewed by Board Members, items from report were discussed.
Motion to accept Curator's Report as information Moved by Jeff Robinson,
seconded by Albert White. All in•Favour.
7.2 Action Required
None
8. Unfinished Business
(a) Caulking Marine Museum Floor
Chuck Buchanan has completed the reparations of the Marine Museum floor. The cracks in the
cement floor have been filled with mortar and grout.
(b) Summer Student Hiring
Two of the summer student positions have been filled, and confirmed. Two more interviews
were conducted May 10th; an offer of employment will be given to one of the potential
candidates May 11th
The Summer Students are set to start Tuesday, May 16th with job orientation,
Wednesday, May 17th for Marine Museum orientation. On Thursday, May 18th the Marine
Museum will open for the 2017 season. Jennifer Beauchamp will have extra hours that week to
assist with the student orientation.
(c) Colonial Talbot Map acquisition and Display
Chuck Buchanan explains that the Colonial Talbot Map has been printed, superimposed on a
plaque, and is now on exhibit at the Marine Museum, hanging in the entryway.
(d) Painting/ Repair on the Light House
Ron Bradfield and Chuck Buchanan explain that the loose pieces of siding need to be removed
and then adhered back on to the Lighthouse, or replaced with liquid vinyl siding. The weather
still needs to improve before any repairs can be made to the Lighthouse, at a later point how to
proceed will be evaluated.
(e) Signage at 14 Snow Street— "Settlement Stories Quilt" and "Edison Museum"
signs (Attached correspondence)
The Settlement Stories Quilt sign has been removed from 14 Snow Street and has now be been
placed at the Memorial Park in Vienna.
The Edison Museum sign will be removed from 14 Snow Street and provided to the Bayham
Historical Society.
(f) King Street Road Allowance between Concession 2 & 3 (attached correspondence)
The correspondence explained that the King Street road allowance is privately owned and is not
a system priority, as outlined in the Roads Master Plan.
9. New Business
(a) Marriage Proposal- top of the Lighthouse April 29, 2017
The municipality was contacted with a request to arrange a marriage proposal at the top of the
Lighthouse. The contact was forwarded to Chuck Buchanan who made arrangements with the
young man. The site was cleaned before they arrived; a photographer from St. Thomas took
photographs, including some with an aerial drone at the top, to capture the moment.
The Family arrived shortly afterwards to celebrate.
The young couple were very pleased with the arrangements, emails have been sent to Chuck
thanking him for his assistance, and final photos will be forwarded when complete.
Chuck will write an article and provide photos to the Lake Erie Beacon.
(b) Discussion regarding Canada Day & Canada 150 at the Museum-tent in parking lot
The final Canada 150 planning meeting is set to be held May 25'h at 5:30 p.m. at the Periscope
Playhouse.
Final site location plans should be settled at this point.
The son of John Hurley is set to have a tent of items of historical interest, and possibly a
computer to view digital images at the Marine Museum parking lot.
(c) Bayham Historical Society Student Grant/hiring
The Bayham Historical Society has one student grant position to fill. Hoping to determine and
make an offer of employment May 11th.
The Bayham Historical Society was hoping to share in the student health/safety training and
orientation day at the Municipality. Margaret Underhill will inquire and arrange joint orientation.
d) E.O.N. has organized social media projects to encourage a following on the

Museums and organizations are encouraged to send event information, and to cooperate in an
Artifact of the Week project and the designated "Theme" weeks each month.
All posts should be sent to Amanda VandenWyngaert and Kim Teuscher for posting.
e) Vienna Weather Vane
The weather vanes being commissioned for Canada 150 were to be designated.at certain
events in their selected communities, if possible. The Board inquires if Council has any updates
regarding the weather vane project, and if Vienna's may be ready in time for a designation on
Sunday, June 4th at Edison Fest, when council members will already be present for ceremonies.

11. Other Business
Chuck shares that Jennifer Beauchamp has had another interesting find at the Marine Museum;
an Atlas providing a history of each community in Elgin County, signed by George Suffel, from
1867 has been found at the museum.
