MINUTES

1. Call to Order
Chair Bev called the meeting to order at 6:58 Wednesday April 12th, 2017.
2. Disclosure of Pecuniary Interest
None
3. Review of Items not on Agenda
a) Floor at Marine Museum
Chuck Buchanan raises concerns regarding the expansion joints in the cement floor at the
Marine Museum. The floor had expansion joints deliberately placed when installed. Those
cracks in the floor need to be vacuumed and filled with caulking to prevent insects from coming
into the museum and losing items in the cavities.
The caulking repairs can be attended to by board members.
4. Announcements
Bev Hickey thanks Chuck Buchanan for chairing the March meeting in his absence, the
members who volunteered at the London Boat Show, and welcomes Jeff Robinson to Museums
Bayham Board.

6. Minutes
(a)With necessary corrections made to minutes, motion to adopt minutes of March 8th, 2017
Museums Bayham Meeting was made.
Moved by Chuck Buchanan, Seconded Ron Bradfield to accept minutes. All in Favour.
7. Correspondence
7.1 Receive for Information
(a) Museum Curator's Monthly Report March 2017(J. Hunt-Beauchamp).
Curator's report was reviewed by Board Members, items from report were
discussed in Unfinished Business and New Business.
7.2 Action Required
None
8. Unfinished Business
a) Artifact display at Ontario Legislature (pictures attached)
Margaret Underhill provided update on the Legislature display. Margaret, Jennifer
Beauchamp and their partners installed the exhibit at Queen's Park. Signage in both English
and French was printed by the Legislature staff; the items are now locked in the display case for
exhibit until July. A date for removal in July has yet to be set.
Information on the exhibit at the Legislature Building in Toronto has been provided on the
website, and at the Marine Museum.
b) Discuss inviting Darya Rousseau, to Museums Bayham Meeting
Bev Hickey inquired to Bayham Historical Society members as to inviting their new
president, Darya Rousseau to the next Museums Bayham Board meeting. Lynda Millard informs
the Board that due to personal business, attendance at the May meeting will not be possible,
but the invitation to attend a Museums Bayham meeting will be extended, for Darya Rousseau's
attendance at her convenience.
c) Summer Student's Job Posting
Applications for the summer student job postings have closed, interviews have started.
Chuck Buchanan, Brenda Gibbons and Margaret Underhill conducted one interview
Wednesday, April 12th. The applicant interviewed well, and was offered a position. Candidate
has yet to call back to confirm acceptance of job offer.
Former summer student Emily Evanitski has confirmed that she would like to return for the 2017
season.
At least one more position needs to be filled, interviews will be conducted as soon as students
are available after exams.
9. New Business
(a) 1867 Bank of North America document found in Museum and framed for display
Bev Hickey unveils the framed document prepared by Jennifer Beauchamp.
The document was found in a filing cabinet, noticing the date coincides with Canada 150,
Jennifer had Mary Gladwin formally of Oxford County Archives conduct some paper
conservation on the document. After reparations the document was professionally framed.
The document was a mortgage for$19,000 for the Port Authority, the boat buildings from Port
Burwell at this time.
10. Finances (Budget)
a) Framing Project
Framing costs were approved and paid for the 1867 Bank of North America document. At a cost
of $167.82, which came from the Sundry Account
11.Other Business
(a) Map of Bayham
Margaret Underhill informs the Board, the Colonel Talbot map of Bayham from the Ontario
Archives has been printed and mounted for the Marine Museum. The map will be printed by
McBain Signs at a cost of approximately $195.00 from the Sundry Account.
(b) Canada 150
Museum will have a tent at the Marine Museum parking lot on Canada Day, supervised by an
attendant.
The next meeting for the Canada 150 planning is April, 27 at 5:30 at the Periscope Playhouse.
c)Paint on Lighthouse
A company that can supply the paint has been found. Further repair on the Lighthouse will wait
until spring.
d) Bayham Historical Society Update
Lynda Millard hands out Bayham Historical Society flyers, including information regarding their
upcoming events.
Bayham Historical Society has been approved for a student grant. Start date has yet to be
confirmed. Student will probably work with the Edison artifacts at The Bayham's Family Table.
e)Settlements Stories Quilt
Jeff Robinson inquired about the Settlement Stories Quilt and other signage left at the Edison
Museum. He proposes, that the signage be moved to the Vienna park with other signs. Chuck
Buchanan says that there are no attachments to the group who created the signs; the signs are
now property of the site.
Motion to make a resolution to Council to move the Settlements Stories Quilt to Vienna park.
Moved by Jeff Robinson, seconded by Matt Shafer. All in Favour.
f)Edison Signs
Lynda Millard moved a resolution for Council that the signage for the "Edison Museum" left at
the old site, be moved into storage until requested for use in the future.

g) See 3.a) Floor at Marine Museum:
Chuck Buchanan makes a motion that Board members repair the cracks in the floor at the
Marine Museum.
Moved by Chuck Buchanan, seconded by Bob Graham. All in Favour
h) E.O.N Student Training
On Monday June 5th, the E.O.N student workshop, training the summer students in museum
practices will be held at the Straffordville Community Centre. Bev Hickey will attend the Marine
Museum from 10:00am to 5:00pm while the students are at training.
12)Motion to Adjourn
The next meeting will be held on a Wednesday, May 10th, 2017
