HomeMy WebLinkAboutAugust 11, 1998 - Council COUNCIL MINUTES THE CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF BAYHAM SPECIAL MEETING P.O.Box 160, 9344 Plank Road STRAFFORDVILLE, ONTARIO Tuesday,August 11, 1998 9:00 a.m. A special meeting of Council of the Municipality of Bayham was held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 1998 in the Committee Room. Present were Mayor Max Stewart, Deputy Mayor Jack Petrie, Councillors John Nezezon, David Mason, and Cliff Evanitski, and Administrator/Treasurer Lynn S. Buchner, and Clerk Lynda Millard. 1. CALL TO ORDER Mayor Stewart called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. 2. DISCLOSURE OF PECUNIARY INTEREST AND THE GENERAL NATURE THEREOF There was no disclosure of pecuniary interest and the general nature thereof. 3. FINANCE ADMINISTRATION & PERSONNEL 1. CORRESPONDENCE & REPORTS (a) Final Tax Billing By-law 98-74. File: F05 98-620 Moved by J. Petrie Seconded by D. Mason "THAT By-law 98-74,being a By-law to adopt the assessment on which 1998 taxes shall be levied, the current estimates for 1998, to establish a levy for 1998, to adopt tax rates, and provide for penalty and interest in default of payment and the collection thereof, be presented to Council for enactment." Disposition: Motion Carried Unanimously (b) 1998 Drainage Maintenance Special Levies By-law 98-75 File: F05 98-621 Moved by J. Nezezon Seconded by J. Petrie "THAT By-law 98-75, being a by-law to provide for the maintenance of Arns, Benner, Coomber A, Coomber B, Corinth A, Fearnley, Garnham,Hampton, Kerr,Little Jerry,Magyar Dielman,Mueller,No 1,Palmer,Stewart, Straffordville,Wallace,White,and Friesen Drains and to raise the sum of $19,719.58 to cover the costs, be presented to Council for enactment." OTHER BUSINESS (a) The Administrator advised that a computer consultant had been retained on the weekend to assess damage and assist in restoration of records due to a file server crash on Thursday, August 6, 1998, and it was determined that the recent installation of new software requires replacement of the file server, and additional upgrades to the system. 98-622 Moved by J. Petrie Seconded by C. Evanitski "THAT Staff be directed to arrange for the appropriate upgrades to the computer systems including the file server,without exceeding the amount budgeted for the year." Disposition: Motion Carried Unanimously (b) Mayor Stewart advised Council that the various names being used for the boundary road between Bayham and Norfolk was causing concern for the County of Elgin 9-1-1 emergency co-ordinator. Mayor Stewart is to contact Mayor Verhoeve in an effort to take steps to reach a mutual agreement. (c) Councillor Mason requested, and the Administrator explained, the process for determination of the tax rates. 4.
