DELEGATIONS (a) 9:15 a.m.—Tony Csinos, Chairman,Bayham 150/2000 Sesquicentennial Committee dressed as "Bayham Bert"made a presentation regarding the creation of the character by Lisa Underhill and how Bert reflects something in each of us. It was noted that the pitch- fork represents not only the hard-working and industriousness of people in Bayham but includes their compassion associated with a willingness to pitch-in and help those in need. Also the pitch-fork has at times also been used as a means of self-defense, and can still be considered useful in the political realm. The fishing pole, made of genuine "Bayham Bamboo", represents both the sport and commercial fishing industry, as well as other varied recreational activities in Bayham, not only of the past but also our potential for the future. The Committee has discussed that monetary recognition may be given for the first baby boy and baby girl born in 2000 to parents residing in Bayham. It is not intended that money be spent on fireworks. Funding options to provide additional staff assistance in preparation of an historical booklet, celebration preparation and promotion are being pursued. COUNCIL MINUTES -264 - November 4, 1999 4. DELEGATIONS (continued) (a) Council was advised that an historical parade depicting various eras of the last 150 years is planned on the Saturday, and that other celebration plans for the July 22 and 23, 2000 weekend are coming along nicely. Most community groups have been approached to provide celebration activity plans. Availability of a yoke of oxen has been confirmed. Many vendors who provide displays and activities are now booking their time for next year, and the committee would like to make commitments, and of course, this requires some means of financial support. The sale of the calendars have not yet provided a source of funding, and the committee would like to obtain promotional items such as mugs, hats and t-shirts to be available for the upcoming Christmas season. On behalf of the Committee, Mr. Csinos requested Council to approve funding support in the amount of$ 5,000.
